"BeDazzled" Light Shade
Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I don't know about any of you, but my husband is one of the unfortunate ones that has to work today, so while he's been at work, I've been aimlessly browsing the internet searching for something to do to pass the time until he gets home and we can head to his family's house for their Christmas festivities. While browsing Pinterest, I saw this picture of a glass bottle covered in colored glass stones and then a light was inserted inside. I thought it was such a pretty and cool idea, that I thought I would try something like it. The first thought that came to mind was the light shade covering the lightbulbs in the baby's room. I have TONS of glass stones sitting in multiple flowerless vases in my storage closet, I thought "What beeter use for them than to decorate the baby's light shade?" I know she will love it! Anyways, this is such a simple craft and so cheap. You can get bags of these glass stones in the flower vase section at Wal*Mart for $2.99 + tax each, and they come in a HUGE variety of colors. Whatever you do, do NOT buy them out of the fish bowl section of Wal*Mart, they are WAY more expensive over there and don't have near as many stones in them. I know, weird huh? Anyways, this tutorial will be short and sweet, I hope you like it!
First, you will need to gather the following items:
About 150+ Colored Glass Stones
Hot Glue Gun
Light Shade (if you are doing the light shade)
Extra Glue Sticks
Next, remove the light shade from the ceiling light...
Be sure to bring the cap that you use to attach the light shade to the ceiling light with you, you will need to use it as a guide. Now, lay your light shade on a flat surface, arch side down (so the arch goes into your flat surface as opposed to away from it.) Place your cap (the piece that you attach the light shade to the ceiling light) over the center hole in your light shade. Now take 6 of your colored rocks and glue them around the cap. Be sure not to glue them to it too closely, remember, you will need to be able to screw that cap back onto the ceiling light when you are done.
Now, choose your next color and glue 12 colored glass stones around the first 6. Start by placing the stones in between each of the first six, and then do the tips.
Keep repeating your colors with each layer, continuing to glue the stones in between the previous layer, and gluing the tips on last.
It took me about an hour give or take a few minutes to complete mine, of course that was including diaper changes and feeding the baby and kids lunch in between layers. :) I can't wait until my baby wakes up from her nap and sees this!
